Face of Rest

When my heart races…

…and ten thousand voices scream for my full attention, I rush on the outside to action. I busy my external body to deafen my internal discord. My heart is city-streets full of traffic. My mind is a cacophony of disquiet.

“My heart is city-streets full of traffic.”

Somehow, through the noise, I hear your whistle. Your light comes riding lightly in a casual stroll. The sound of chaos muffles, then mutes; peace pervades as your genial smile rises like the dawn. Gently, you rest your arm around my shoulder. You lead me out of all the noise. As we come to a quiet place, you invite me to take a seat. Together, face-to-face, we rest in silence.

Without a word…

…I hear you. My spirit lifts its tired head as your subtle light electrifies my life. Your face is the sun; my face, the solar panel. With eyes closed, the warmth of your rays arrests me. There’s nothing left but to rest in the immeasurable breadth of unbridled love.nature-2576033-e1503627184366.jpg

“Your face is the sun; my face, the solar panel.”

I open my eyes, and see your face once more. My eyes intermingle with yours. I gaze into the depths, and I dive—suddenly surrounded by color and light. I hear the soft sounding songs soar from the fountains of your soul.

I am welcomed…

…by memories and imagination. I am greeted with harmony and hymns. I am accosted by love and ushered into the undying dance. Expansive dreams descend and ascend into infinite as I drink in your liquor of love. I am swaddled in warmth and carried into quietude.colors-2203720-e1503625386381.jpg

“I am accosted by love…”

Dreams overtake my untired mind and I awake inside a wilderness of wonder. I am sprinting through forests of life and color. I am heaving lungfuls of electrified air. Every gasp feeds life and power to my chest. Every heart beat invigorates me with bursts of overwhelming strength.

I jump across chasms…

…and laugh. I sprint and weave like an arrow through the trees. I run upon a cliff-side suddenly, and leap. I lunge face first into the ferocious fall. I stretch out my arms and lift with powerful swiftness and ease.person-731243-e1503627314104.jpg

“I sprint and weave like an arrow through the trees.”

I mount up with insurmountable wings. I am unsinkable. I glide and drift through the weightless space of eternity. I am impervious and impenetrable. I am quick in stride with the ineffable energy of life. I am resting, with arms spread wide, in the fold of the fields of God.

Holy Father,

I wait upon you. I wait for you. Oh come! I draw near to you. I know you will draw near to me. I know all the fountains of fiery life are streaming from your limitless eyes. I know my rest arrives when I behold you. I will cling to your colossal might. Amen.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

Isaiah 40:31

Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
