A Conversation With Christ
One night not long ago, I was talking to God about my life, expressing my disappointment in myself and apologizing for past regrets, when I heard Jesus begin to speak to me through the Spirit—interrupting my pious pity party. What He said to me surprised me, encouraged me, and filled me with renewed hope for my calling, purpose, power and impact in the word. This is what He said:
“Tommy, we’re doing away with this mindset that says ‘I’m too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.’ That is to say, believers who have given up hope of having, and actually living, the abundant life I promised to them here on earth.”
“Remember, I taught you to pray, ‘on earth as it is in heaven.’ I taught you the secret of abiding in me, and I in you.”
“If I am in you, then heaven is within you too, ‘for the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain me,’ and neither can you. You have to pour me out. You cannot ‘quench the Spirit’ forever. Hide me under a bushel for too long, and it will catch fire.”
“Watch out! My light will shine whether you like it or not, and whether you will it or not. I have made you a light to the world. Did I ever say there was a light switch? Do you think you can, at any time, cease to shine? For I do not breakdown the broken-hearted, and a dimly lit light I will not extinguish.”
“You even shine in your sleep for Christ’s sake! And I meant that, every word of it! For Christ’s—for my sake—and for the sake of the Gospel, you shine!”
“You are a light! There is no hiding it! There is no snuffing it out! Do not be ashamed of who you truly are. I will beam you brilliantly into the dark void, and many lost souls will find their way out to meet me where I am in paradise, parked on the porch beside the altar of sacrifice, at the right hand of the Father, the Son seated before the seven-fold Spirit of God forever. Amen.”
