Immanuel

You struck my darkened heart
with a living word—I heaved to life.
Quick, fleet, and full of sensitivity,
salvation strangled irresponse-ability.

You brought feeling back
where callousness had cauterized connection,
where leprosy had severed sensation.
You set all things right.

You bound up my brokenness
with the bright balm of Gilead.
What once was hollow you have hallowed.
Your hand has made me whole.

You breathed your being
into the bellicose bowels of the earth;
into the depths of death’s dominion,
You planted Your seed.

Now I am redeemed.
